One Diagnosis Changed Our Lives. Our Love Carried Us Through.
Vicki
If someone had told me that one phone call would change the rest of my life, I never would have believed them.
Brian and I were living the life we had always dreamed of. We loved hiking mountain trails, skiing, mountain biking through Colorado, and traveling with our beautiful Siberian Husky, Aspen. We were healthy, active, and excited about the future. Cancer wasn't part of our plans. It wasn't even on our radar.
Then I heard the words no one is ever prepared to hear.
Stage IV cancer.
In an instant, our future changed forever.
My days became filled with scans, surgeries, biopsies, treatments, hospital stays, and difficult decisions. There were moments I was terrified, moments I questioned everything, and moments when I didn't know what tomorrow would bring.
But through every setback, every long hospital stay, and every small victory, I discovered something I never expected. I wasn't fighting this battle alone. Brian was beside me every step of the way, carrying burdens I couldn't always see while helping me find the strength to keep moving forward.

When Vicki was diagnosed, my life changed too.
I wasn't the one receiving treatments, but I was living every appointment, every setback, every sleepless night, and every difficult conversation right beside her. I became her caregiver, advocate, protector, and the person trying to stay strong, even when I was afraid myself.
People often ask what cancer is like for the patient.
Far fewer ask what it's like to watch the person you love fight for her life.
That's why we wrote The Other Side together. Through alternating chapters, we share the same journey from two very different perspectives—the patient and the caregiver. Together, we invite you behind the hospital doors to experience the fear, uncertainty, heartbreak, unexpected laughter, and hope that carried us through one of the greatest challenges of our lives.
Whether you're facing cancer yourself, caring for someone you love, or supporting a friend or family member, we hope our story reminds you that even in life's darkest moments, you never have to walk alone.
